Nepal’s renowned mountaineer Nirmal “Nims” Purja has reportedly attempted a new Guinness World Record by climbing Mount Everest (8,849 m) and Mount Lhotse (8,516 m) in an astonishing 13 hours, 42 minutes, and 17 seconds without supplementary oxygen.

If officially verified, the achievement would shatter Purja’s own current Guinness World Record of 25 hours and 1 minute, set in May 2022, for the fastest ascent of Everest and Lhotse without supplemental oxygen.

Why the Feat Is Extraordinary

  • Everest and Lhotse are the world’s first and fourth-highest mountains.
  • Climbers usually require days to summit both peaks.
  • Purja attempted the traverse without bottled oxygen, dramatically increasing the physical challenge at extreme altitude.
  • The route involves crossing the South Col and navigating some of the most demanding terrain in the Himalayas.

Purja already holds several mountaineering records, including the fastest Everest–Lhotse traverse without oxygen and the fastest completion of all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters without supplementary oxygen.

A Proud Moment for Nepal

Nims Purja, born in Myagdi, Nepal, has become one of the most influential figures in modern mountaineering. His achievements have helped bring global recognition to Nepali climbers and Sherpas, highlighting their skill and endurance on the world’s highest mountains.

If Guinness World Records confirms the 13-hour, 42-minute, 17-second ascent, it would rank among the greatest endurance accomplishments in high-altitude climbing history and further cement Purja’s status as one of the world’s most accomplished mountaineers.
